Psycho Studio Records History

Psycho Studio Records, (PSR) was founded in 1985 in Nevada City California by Vince Rule. We started on a simple Yamaha 4- track cassette recorder that recorded four individual tracks on both side of the tiny 1/8 inch tape running in the same direction at the same time. It seems so primitive now, yet it was so great then. I figured if George Martin could record The Beatles first three albums on the equivalent or less, I would just have to be as creative & resourceful with my recording methods. A much more difficult task than I expected. Hats off to “Sir” George Martin. In my mind, the greatest producer of all due to his artistic approach to his technological limitations. Truly an under-rated talent & “The 5th Beatle”.

I only intended to record my own demo’s & idea’s  at the onset, yet I found right away that others were interested in my recording skills. As tape turned to software, I stayed on top of the newest recording methods & choice “state of the art” techniques.
It was not long until I was spending as much, or more time recording & producing the music of others as well as  my own. It was a whole new avenue of creativity to me, my production ideas & what I heard applied to the music created by other artist’s. What a concept!

In 2002, we could finally do what we had wanted all along, design & build a studio from the foundation up. We hired master contractors Chris Shurte Inc. for the job. We bought property in beautiful downtown Grass Valley California & moved PSR to that location after construction was completed mid year. We love what we do still to this day, and are so blessed to have such a wonderful place & the amazing people & artists that have helped us along the way. We will never forget you, always be grateful, and appreciate those who have shared their skills and knowledge with us. We will continue to grow, and hopefully build even a bigger, better facility one day soon. You must always step forward.
